Eleutherodactylus aurilegulus Savage, McCranie, and Wilson, 1988, Bull. S. California Acad. Sci., 87: 50. Holotype: KU 209002, by original designation. Type locality: "Quebrada de Oro (15° 38′ N, 86° 47′ W), elevation 780-840 m, tributary of Río Viejo, south slope of Cerro Búfalo, Cordillera de Nombre de Dios, Departamento de Atlántida, Honduras".

Cloud forests of the mountains and foothills of northern Honduras between the Río Humuya–Ulua and Río Sico including the Cordillera Nombre de Dios, Cerro de Sulaco, and Montañas de Yoro, 50–1550 m elevation.
