Comment

See account by Savage, 1987, Fieldiana, Zool., N.S., 33: 34-35, who included it in the Eleutherodactylus gollmeri group. In the Eleutherodactylus (Craugastor) gollmeri group of Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 227. In older literature often confounded with Lithodytes lineatus. Junior secondary homonym of Hylodes lineatus Duméril and Bibron, 1841, Erp. Gen., 6: 625. Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 226, included this species in his Eleutherodactylus fitzingeri series, Eleutherodactylus gollmeri group. In the Craugastor laticeps species series of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 38. In the subgenus Craugastor but not assigned to species series by Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 123. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 305. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 140–191, provided a key to the genera and species of Brachycephaloidea (= Craugastoridae, Eleutherodactylidae) in Central America and provided maps and photographs of the species, including this one.
