Known only from the type locality, Caraz , in the northern part of the Callejón de Huaylas in the Río Santa Valley at 2290 m, Departamento de Ancash, Provincia de Huaylas, Peru.

In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) orestes group according to the original publication. Duellman and Lehr, 2007, Sci. Pap. Nat. Hist. Mus. Univ.
