English Names

Rio Pescado Stubfoot Toad (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 39).

Distribution

Humid lowland and premontane Pacific forests of southwestern Ecuador (Azuay, Cañar, and Guayas provinces), 200–460 m elevation.

Placed in the Atelopus longirostris group in the original publication. Coloma and Lötters, 1996, Herpetologica, 52: 66–70, reported on the tadpole. Lötters, 1996, Neotrop. Toad Genus Atelopus: 16, provided a review of the literature. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 161.
