Nectophryne batesii Boulenger, 1913, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 8, 12: 71. Syntypes: BMNH 1907.5.22.148-150 (reregistered 1947.2.19.30-33), 1908.5.30.112-117 (formerly 1947.2.19.34-39), 1911.5.30.15 (reregistered 1947.2.19.42), 1913.10.27.45-48 (reregistered 1947.2.19.40-41), according to Grandison, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 69, and museum records. Type locality: "Neighbourhood of Bitye, on the Ja River (Congo System)", Cameroon.

Distribution

Southeastern Nigeria, western and southern Cameroon, Gabon, southern (and expected in northern) Rep. Congo, southern Central African Republic, and northeastern Dem. Rep. Congo; Equatorial Guinea (Bioko I. and Río Muni).

Fondation Biotope, 27: 15, summarized the literature for Gabon and provided photographs (p. 51). Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 92–93, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map.
