Distribution

Found in the upper Madeira Basin in Brazil and Bolivia; known from four localities on the west bank of the Madeira River close to the municipality of Porto Velho, state of Rondônia, Brazil; in Bolivia known from Cobija and Santa Crucito in the western portion of the Madeira Basin in the Departamento Pando.

Comment

In the Rhinella margaritifera group and confused with Rhinella castaneotica prior to its naming; comparative external morphology, advertisement call, molecular markers, and natural history detailed in the original publication. Köhler and Lötters, 1999, Bonn. Zool. Beitr., 48: 259-273, discussed the call, provided a Bolivian record and discussed the species' range (as Rhinella castaneotica).
