Bufo regularis rangeri Hewitt, 1935, Rec. Albany Mus., 4: 285. Syntypes: AMG (2 specimens), by original designation; now in PEM. PEM A822 designated lectotype by Conradie, Branch, and Watson, 2015, Zootaxa, 3936: 57, who commented on the type series. Type locality: "Gleniffer, near Kei Road, C[ape]. P[rovince].", Rep. South Africa.

Common Names

Distribution
Throughout South Africa excluding the central Karoo region; along the Orange River into extreme southern Namibia; possibly to be found in extreme southeastern Botswana, extreme southern Zimbabwe, and extreme southern Mozambique.

In the Bufo regularis group of Martin, 1972, in Blair (ed.), Evol. Genus Bufo: 61, and Tandy and Keith, 1972, in Blair (ed.), Evol. Genus Bufo: 159. Channing, 2001, Amph. Cent. S. Afr.: 93, Cunningham, 2004, in Minter et al. (eds.), Atlas Frogs S. Afr. Lesotho and Swaziland: 77-80, Pickersgill, 2007, Frog Search: 519-521, and Du Preez and Carruthers, 2009, Compl. Guide Frogs S. Afr.: 154-155, provided an accounts (as Bufo rangeri and Amietophrynus rangeri). Channing, Rödel, and Channing, 2012, Tadpoles of Africa: 135–137, reported on comparative tadpole morphology (as Amietophrynus rangeri). Ohler and Dubois, 2016, PeerJ, 4(e1553): 1–13, redescribed the holotype and discussed the nomenclatural ramifications of its identification. Du Preez and Carruthers, 2017, Frogs S. Afr., Compl. Guide: 184–185, provided a brief account, including a polygon range map, photograph, identification features, adult and larval morphology, habitat, and call.
