Comment

In a privately circulated "List provisoire des amphibiens anoures du Cameroun" J.-L. Amiet suggested that this is a subspecies of Werneria preussi. Rödel, Schmitz, Pauwels, and Böhme, 2004, Zootaxa, 720: 1-28, discussed confusion with other species. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 206. Rödel, Schmitz, Pauwels, and Böhme, 2004, Zootaxa, 720: 23, discussed the Equatorial Guinea record. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 100–101, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. See brief account (as Werneria cf. mertensiana), range map, and photographs for Equatorial Guinea in Sánchez-Vialas, Calvo-Revuelta, Castroviejo-Fisher, and De la Riva, 2020, Proc. California Acad. Sci., Ser. 4, 66: 137–230.
