Distribution

Montane cloud forest on the southern Amazonian slope of the Cordillera Oriental in the provinces of Morona-Santiago and Zamora-Chinchipe, Ecuador, 2200 to 2700 m elevation.

Comment

In the Cochranella ocellata group according to the original publication. Cisneros-Heredia and McDiarmid, 2007, Zootaxa, 1572: 50-51, summarized the relevant literature. Cisneros-Heredia and Yánez-Muñoz, 2007, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 2: 3, considered this species to be in (their nomenclature) the Cochranella griffithsi clade, along with Nymphargus buenaventura, Nymphargus griffithsi, and Nymphargus wileyiGuayasamin, Cisneros-Heredia, McDiarmid, Peña, and Hutter, 2020, Diversity, 12 (222): 153–155, provided a detailed account, including adult morphology, relationships, natural history, and conservation status.
