Comparative adult and larval morphology, molecular markers, and natural history summarized in the original publication. The species had been confused with Nymphargus griffithsi priori to its elucidation and naming.  Arcila-Pérez, Ríos-Soto, Montilla, Londoño-Guarnizo, Gómez, and Vargas-Salinas, 2017, Herpetol. Rev., 48: 275–280, reported on vocalization (as Nymphargus griffithsi) and natural history on a population in the central Andes of Colombia.
