Removed from the synonymy of Hyalinobatrachium orientalis by Castroviejo-Fisher, Señaris, Ayarzagüena, and Vilà, 2009 "2008", Herpetologica, 64: 472-484 (where it had been placed by Cannatella and Lamar, 1986, J. Herpetol., 20: 311), and who note a related, but unnamed species from the Cordillera del Litoral. See Barrio-Amorós, Rojas-Runjaic, and Señaris, 2019, Amph. Rept.
