Comment

See account by Lötters, Jungfer, Henkel, and Schmidt, 2007, Poison Frogs: 44-55. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583, suggested that Rheobates (their exemplar being Rheobates palmatus) is the sister taxon of all remaining Aromobatidae, thereby suggesting that Anomaloglossinae is paraphyletic with respect to Aromobatinae and Allobatinae. Blackburn and Wake, 2011, In Zhang (ed.), Zootaxa, 3148: 39-55, discussed the status of this taxon and did not recognize this nominal subfamily because of allobatinae paraphyly. This taxon is provisionally retained here pending a more thorough analysis and discussion.
