Distribution

Known only from the type locality in the Guiana region of northern Brazil, near the Rio Amapari (tributary of the Rio Araguari), 100–310 m elevation.

Comment

Lötters, Jungfer, Henkel, and Schmidt, 2007, Poison Frogs: 362–363, provided an account and placed this species in their Ameerega picta group. Costa-Campos, Lima, and Amézquita, 2016, Zootaxa, 4136: 387–389, reported on advertisement call. Guillory, French, Twomey, Chávez, Prates, von May, De la Riva, Lötters, Reichle, Serrano-Rojas, Whitworth, and Brown, 2020, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 142 (106638): 1–13, discussed the ambiguous phylogenetic placement. Pezzuti, Araújo, Sanches, Pedroso-Santos, Dias-Souza, and Costa-Campos, 2022, Zootaxa, 5115: 295–300, described the tadpole and its chondrocranium. Taucce, Costa-Campos, Carvalho, and Michalski, 2022, Eur. J. Taxon., 836: 96–130, reported on distribution, literature, and conservation status for Amapá, Brazil.
