Lötters, Jungfer, Henkel, and Schmidt, 2007, Poison Frogs: 627, provided an account (as "Dendrobates" daleswansoni). In the Andinobates bombetes species group of Brown, Twomey, Amézquita, Souza, Caldwell, Lötters, von May, Melo-Sampaio, Mejía-Vargas, Pérez-Peña, Pepper, Poelman, Sanchez-Rodriguez, and Summers, 2011, Zootaxa, 3083: 36. Duarte-Marín, González-Acosta, Dias, Arias-Álvarez, and Vargas-Salinas, 2020, J. Nat. Hist., London, 54: 3005–3030, provided descriptions of advertisement call, larval morphology, and natural history. : 3005–3030, reported on advertisement call, tadpole morphology, and natural history.
