Dubois, 1981, Monit. Zool. Ital., N.S., Suppl., 15: 240, removed this species from the synonymy of Rana cyanophlyctis, where it had been placed by Boulenger, 1896, Zool. Rec., 32: 32; Boulenger, 1920, Rec. Indian Mus., 20: 12. Treated as a subspecies of Rana cyanophlyctis by Khan, 1997, Pakistan J. Zool., 29: 107-112. See Balletto, Cherchi, and Gasperetti, 1985, Fauna Saudi Arabia, 7: 374-384, for account. Roy and Elepfandt, 1993, J. Biosciences, Bangalore, 18: 381-393, supported the distinctiveness of this species from Euphlyctis cyanophlyctis on the basis of call characteristics.
