Limnonectes bannaensis Ye, Fei, Xie, and Jiang, 2007, Zool. Res., Kunming, 28: 546. Holotype: CIB 570798, by original designation. Type locality: Jinghong City, Mengla County, Yunnan Province in China.

Distribution

Southern and western Yunnan and southwestern and southeastern Guangxi, China; extending into northern Thailand, Myanmar (Kachin, Shan), Laos, and Vietnam (Cao Bang, Quang Ninh, Phu Yen, Ha Giang, Ha Tinh, Lai Chau, and Dien Bien provinces) along the highlands to the Central Highlands of Vietnam.

Confused with Limnonectes kuhlii prior to its naming according to the original publication. See comment under Limnonectes kuhlii. Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 3: 1329–1335, provided an account for China, figures, and map. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2010, Colored Atlas of Chinese Amph.: 355–356, provided a brief account for China including photographs of specimens and habitat. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2012, Colored Atlas Chinese Amph. Distr.: 442–443, provided an account, photographs, and a range map for China. McLeod, Kurlbaum, and Hoang, 2015, Zootaxa, 3947: 210, mapped the species range. Suwannapoom, Yuan, Chen, Hou, Zhao, Wang, Nguyen, Murphy, Sullivan, McLeod, and Che, 2016, Zootaxa, 4093: 181–200, suggested on the basis of molecular data that this species is the sister taxon of an unnamed species of Limnonectes of Vietnam and together the sister of Limnonectes fujianensis + Limnonectes nameyi. Gawor, Pham, Nguyen, Nguyen, Schmitz, and Ziegler, 2016, Salamandra, 52: 26–27, provided a recordfrom Bai Tu Long, National Park, Vietnam, provisionally identified as this species. Pham, An, Herbst, Bonkowski, Ziegler, and Nguyen, 2017, Bonn Zool. Bull., 66: 37–53, provided records for Cao Bang Province, Vietnam, along with observations on morphology and natural history. Do, Ngo, and Nguyen, 2017, Hue Univ. J. Sci: Nat. Sci., 126: 91, noted that earlier records of Limnonectes kuhlii from Phu Yen Province, Vietnam, are referrable to Limnonectes bannaensis. Pham, Do, Ngo, Tran, Ziegler, and Nguyen, 2020, Check List, 16: 1025–1041, provided a record from Hai Ha District, Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam, on the Guangxi, China, border. Luong, Pham, Do, Hoang, Phan, Nguyen, Ziegler, and Le, 2021, Check List, 17: 445–448, provided Lau Chau province, Vietnam, records and discussed the range within that country. Poyarkov, Nguyen, Popov, Geissler, Pawangkhanant, Neang, Suwannapoom, and Orlov, 2021, Russ. J. Herpetol., 28 (3A): 23, briefly described the range.
