Hyla leucomelas Duméril and Bibron, 1841, Erp. Gen., 6: 576. Syntypes: MNHNP 176 and 751, according to Guibé, 1950 "1948", Cat. Types Amph. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat.: 21 (measurements for only one specimen noted in type description). Type locality: "Montevideo", Uruguay. Tentative synonymy by Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 375, who considered Hyla pulchella to have priority.

Hyla agrestis Bell, 1843, Zool. Voyage Beagle, Part 5: 46. Syntypes: Not designated; BMNH 1947.2.23.35-36 (formerly lot 1845.5.25.44) according to Condit, 1964, J. Ohio Herpetol. Soc., 4: 87, and museum records. Type locality: "found in numbers in the open grass plains, and likewise in swamps, about Maldonado", Uruguay. Synonym with Hyla leucomelas and Hyla pulchella (under Hyla agrestis) by Burmeister, 1861, Reise La Plata-Staaten, 2: 531. Tentative synonymy by Steindachner, 1864, Verh. Zool. Bot. Ges. Wien, 14: 241; synonymy by Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 375.
