Comment

See Duellman, 1970, Monogr. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas: 240–245, and note by Duellman, 2001, Hylid Frogs Middle Am., Ed. 2: 859. Lips and Savage, 1996, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 109: 17–26, included this species (as Hyla rufitela) in a key to the tadpoles found in Costa Rica. Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 302-303, provided an account and noted that with the possible exception of records for western Colombia all records of this species from the Pacific drainage of Central America should be referred to Hyla rosenbergi. In the Hypsiboas pellucens group by Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 87. See comments by Sunyer, Páiz, Dehling, and Köhler, 2009, Herpetol. Notes, 2: 189-202, regarding Nicaraguan populations. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 232–235, provided a brief summary of natural history for the species of Hypsiboas in Central America and provided a range map and photograph for this species.  Caminer and Ron, 2020, Zool. J. Linn. Soc., 190: 149–180, found that populations of Boana pellucens from northern Ecuador were more closely related to Boana rufitela of Panama than to other Ecuadorian populations of Boana pellucens and pending additional study referred the specimens of Boana "pellucens" from Provincia Esmeraldas, Ecuador to Boana rufitela. Martínez-Fonseca, Holmes, Sunyer, Westeen, Grundler, Cerda, Fernández-Mena, Loza-Molina, Monagan, Nondorf, Pandelis, and Rabosky, 2024, Check List, 20: 70, provided and discussed a record from Refugio Bartola, Departamento Río San Juan, Nicaragua, 60 m elevation.
