Tentatively placed in the Hyla parviceps group according to the original publication. In the Dendropsophus parviceps group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 93. Peloso and Gasparini, 2006, Check List, 2(2): 38-40, reported new records and discussed the range. Cassini, Neves, Dayrell, Cruz, and Feio, 2007, Check List, 3: 190-192, provided a new record and provided a range map. Santos, Silva, Fehlberg, Santos, Zaidan, and Garcia, 2012, Check List, 8: 313-316, reported this species from the eastern region of the Serra da Mantiqueira, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and commented on the range. In the Dendropsophus ruschii group of Orrico, Grant, Faivovich, Rivera-Correa, Rada, Lyra, Cassini, Valdujo, Schargel, Machado, Wheeler, Barrio-Amorós, Loebmann, Moravec, Zina, Solé, Sturaro, Peloso, Suárez, and Haddad, 2021, Cladistics, 37: 73–105.
