For accounts see Duellman, 1970, Monogr. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas: 323–327, and Savage and Heyer, 1969, Rev. Biol. Tropical, 16: 1–127. Lips and Savage, 1996, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 109: 17–26, included this species (as Hyla zeteki) in a key to the tadpoles found in Costa Rica. Duellman, 2001, Hylid Frogs Middle Am., Ed. 2: 876, transferred former members of the Hyla zeteki group into the Hyla pictipes group. See account by Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 337–338. In the Isthmohyla pictipes group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 103. Reviewed by Gerald, 2006, Cat. Am. Amph. Rept., 805: 1–3. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 255. See Köhler, Sunyer, Ponce, and Batista, 2008, Senckenb. Biol., 88: 329–333, for a record on the eastern extreme of the range in Chiriqui Province, Panama. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 236–244, provided a brief summary of natural history for the species of Isthmohyla in Central America and provided a range map and photograph for this species.
