Comment

Intermediate between Scinax fuscovarius and Scinax nasicus, according to the original publication, so presumably in the former Scinax ruber group. In the Scinax ruber clade, unassigned to group, of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 97. See De la Riva, Márquez, and Bosch, 1994, Bijdr. Dierkd., 64: 75–85, for advertisement call. De la Riva, Köhler, Lötters, and Reichle, 2000, Rev. Esp. Herpetol., 14: 36, discussed the difficulty in identification between this species and Scinax fuscovarius, noting the possible occurrence of Scinax castroviejoi in Argentina. Lavilla and Cei, 2001, Monogr. Mus. Reg. Sci. Nat. Torino, 28: 54, reported on the distribution in Argentina. Köhler, 2000, Bonn. Zool. Monogr., 48: 106-108, provided a brief account. Lavilla, Barrionuevo, and Baldo, 2002, Cuad. Herpetol., 16: 104, suggested that attention to call parameters are required to distinguish this species from Scinax fuscovarius and that this will be needed to document categorically the existence of this species in Argentina. Ferraro, Blotto, Baldo, Barrasso, Barrionuevo, Basso, Cardozo, Cotichelli, Faivovich, Pereyra, and Lavilla, 2018, in Vaira, Akmentins, and Lavilla (eds.), Cuad. Herpetol., 32 (Supl. 1): 17–19, noted that the taxonomic status of this species remains problematic. In the Scinax eurydice group of Araujo-Vieira, Lourenço, Lacerda, Lyra, Blotto, Ron, Baldo, Pereyra, Suárez-Mayorga, Baêta, Ferreira, Barrio-Amorós, Borteiro, Brandão, Brasileiro, Donnelly, Dubeux, Köhler, Kolenc, Leite, Maciel, Nunes, Orrico, Peloso, Pezzuti, Reichle, Rojas-Runjaic, Silva, Sturaro, Langone, Garcia, Rodrigues, Frost, Wheeler, Grant, Pombal, Haddad, and Faivovich, 2023, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 27 (Special Issue): 101 (see comment under Hylinae).
