Hyla kennedyi Pyburn, 1973, J. Herpetol., 7: 297. Holotype: UTA A-3697, by original designation. Type locality: "ca. 110 mi. ESE Puerto Gaitán, Departamento de Meta, Colombia . . . . from the base of a tall grass clump at the edge of a recently filled pond in grassland".

In the Scinax ruber clade, Scinax rostratus group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 96-97. Barrio-Amorós, 1999 "1998", Acta Biol. Venezuelica, 18: 36, provided the Venezuelan locality. See Barrio-Amorós, Rojas-Runjaic, and Señaris, 2019, Amph. Rept. Conserv., 13 (1: e180): 84–85, for comments on range and literature. Señaris and Rojas-Runjaic, 2020, in Rull and Carnaval (eds.), Neotrop. Divers. Patterns Process.: 571–632, commented on range and conservation status in the Venezuelan Guayana. Bang and Giaretta, 2017, Check List, 13 (3: 2150): 1–13, a new record (as Scinax rostratus) from Roraima, Brazil, and discussed the range, reassignment of older records, and advertisement call; this identification changed to Scinax kennedyi by Lopes and Giaretta, 2022, Pap. Avulsos Zool., São Paulo, 22 (e202262036): 1-8, who also discussed comparative morphology, range, and advertisement calls, and provided a dot map.
