Hyperolius brachiofasciatus Ahl, 1931, Mitt. Zool. Mus. Berlin, 17: 87. Syntypes: ZMB unnumbered, according to the original publication; lost, according to Laurent, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 208; apparently found and reported as ZMB 77723 by Tillack, de Ruiter, and Rödel, 2021, Zoosyst. Evol., Berlin, 97: 419. Type locality: "Ngoto, Lobaje-gebiet, Westafrika [Lobaye Prefectiure, Central African Republic]". The description (and illustration) by Ahl, 1931, Das Tierreich, 55: 361, appeared subsequently according to Tillack, de Ruiter, and Rödel, 2021, Zoosyst. Evol., Berlin, 97: 419.

Known definitely only from the type locality (Ngoto in southwestern Central African Republic), more provisionally from a locality in central Rep. Congo, and from several localities in central and northeastern Dem. Rep. Congo.

Mali, Banda, Chifundera, Badjedjea, Sebe, Lokasola, Ewango, Tungaluna, and Akaibe, 2019, Am. J. Zool., 2: 38–43, reported the species from the Okapi Wildlife Reserve, northeastern Dem. Rep. Congo.
