High elevation savannas of southern Senegal and Sierra Leone to Burkina Faso and southwestern Ivory Coast; expected in Guinea-Bissau.

Removed from the synonymy of Hyperolius nasutus by Rödel and Ernst, 2003, Herpetozoa, Wien, 16: 27, where it had been placed by Channing, Moyer, and Burger, 2002, Afr. Zool., 37: 96. Amiet, 2005, Rev. Suisse Zool., 112: 271-310, discussed the Hyperolius nasutus group and excluded the former West African part of the range as assignable to other species, such as Hyperolius adspersus (Hyperolius lamottei of Schiøtz, 2006, Alytes, 24) and Hyperolius igbettensis. Schiøtz, 2006, Alytes, 24: 63, concurred with the resurrection of Hyperolius lamottei on the basis of call structure. In the Hyperolius nasutus group of Amiet, 2005, Rev. Suisse Zool., 112: 271-310. Channing, Hillers, Lötters, Rödel, Schick, Conradie, Rödder, Mercurio, Wagner, Dehling, Du Preez, Kielgast, and Burger, 2013, Zootaxa, 3620: 329-330, provided an account and redelimited the species and demonstrated via molecular evidence that it is not a member of the Hyperolius nasutus group. Channing, Rödel, and Channing, 2012, Tadpoles of Africa: 212–213, reported on comparative tadpole morphology. Schiøtz, 1999, Treefrogs Afr.: 100–101, provided a brief account and map. Dehling and Sinsch, 2019, Zool. Anz., 280: 65–77, did not assign this to a species group. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 182–183, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Ayoro, Segniagbeto, Hema, Penner, Oueda, Dubois, Rödel, Kabré, and Ohler, 2020, Zoosystema, 42: 547–582, discussed records, identification, and habitat in Burkina Faso.
