Physalaemus cristinae Cardozo, Tomatis, Duport-Bru, Kolenc, Borteiro, Pansonato, Confalonieri, Lourenço, Haddad, and Baldo, 2023, Herpetol. Monogr., 37: 106. Holotype: LGE 08574, by original designation. Type locality: "from Ituzaingó (27°35′17″S, 56°40′57.500W; 77 m above sea level), Ituzaingó department, Corrientes Province, Argentina". ZooBank LSID: 4460A102-A095-4E1F-8503-7FB (Note that as of 3 January 2024, the zoobank record for this taxon is empty suggesting that the name will not become valid until the paper version is received by libraries of record.)

Argentina (Corrientes, Chaco, Entre Ríos, Formosa, Misiones, and Santa Fé provinces) and adjacent Paraguay (Cordillera department).

Comment

In the Physalaemus cuvieri clade according to the original publication, where it was distinguished by (only) call and molecular markers from Physalaemus albonotatus, with which it had previously been confused. In addition, larval and adult morphology and karyotype were provided as well as an extensive literature review detailing where previously identified as other species.
