Rana pachybrachion Wied-Neuwied, 1824, Isis von Oken, 14: 671. Types: Not designated. Type locality: "Brasiliens". Possibly an incorrect subsequent spelling or emendation of Rana pachypus Spix, 1824. Type locality: "Urwäldern an der Lagoa d'Arara unweit des Flusses Mucuri", Brazil; regarded as being somewhere in southern Bahia, Brazil, by Bokermann, 1966, Lista Anot. Local. Tipo Anf. Brasil.: 89, who made the tentative synonymy.

Distribution

Atlantic Forest and occurs along the Brazilian coastal zone from Pernambuco and Alagoas to northern São Paulo state in Bertioga municipality, also occupying higher altitudinal zones (ca. 700–900 m elevation) in Rio de Janeiro state and the ‘‘Zona da Mata Mineira,’’ the Atlantic Forest in eastern Minas Gerais; in São Paulo state, below 100 m elevation) east of the Serra do Mar mountain range.
