Microhyla orientalis Matsui, Hamidy, and Eto, 2013, Zootaxa, 3670: 584. Holotype: MZB.Amp 20404, by original designation. Type locality: "Wongaya Gede, Bali, Indonesia (08° 25′ 03″ S, 115° 07′ 28″ E, alt. 435 m a.s.l.. . .)".

Comment

In the Microhyla achatina group, confused with Microhyla acahtina prior to its naming, and he sister taxon of Microhyla borneensis + Microhyla madang according to the original publication. In the Microhyla achatina species group of Garg, Suyesh, Das, Jiang, Wijayathilaka, Amarasinghe, Alhadi, Vineeth, Aravind, Senevirathne, Meegaskumbura, and Biju, 2018 "2019", Vert. Zool., Senckenberg, 69: 1–71. Gorin, Solovyeva, Hasan, Okamiya, Karunarathna, Pawangkhanant, de Silva, Juthong, Milto, Nguyen, Suwannapoom, Haas, Bickford, Das, and Poyarkov, 2020, PeerJ, 8 (e9411): 1–47, placed this species in their Microhyla achatina group as well as noting that the Bali and Java populations likely represent distinct species. Reilly, Stubbs, Arida, Arifin, Bloch, Hamidy, Harmon, Hykin, Karin, Ramadhan, Iskandar, and McGuire, 2020, Herpetol. Rev., 51: 786, provided a record for an introduced population on Timor I., Indonesia. Eprilurahman, Atmaja, Munir, Hamidy, Arisuryanti, and Ubaidillah, 2021, J. Trop. Biodiversity Biotechnol., 6 (2: jtbb64342): 1–11, reported on the 16S mtDNA phylogeography, noting that populations from Sulawesi and Timor are introduced, the possible history of which was discussed.
