See comment under Petropedetes parkeri. See statement of geographic range, habitat, and conservation status (in the sense of including Petropedetes newtonii) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 627. Barej, Rödel, Gonwouo, Pauwels, Böhme, and Schmitz, 2010, Zootaxa, 2340: 4–13, provided an account and revision (also in the sense of including Petropedetes newtonii). Channing, Rödel, and Channing, 2012, Tadpoles of Africa: 267, provided information on comparative larval morphology. Barej, Rödel, Loader, Menegon, Gonwouo, Penner, Gvoždík, Günther, Bell, Nagel, and Schmitz, 2014, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 71: 268, noted two unnamed species masquerading under this name, one of which is now Petropedetes newtonii
