Distribution

Known only from few localities in southeastern Guinea and adjacent western Ivory Coast near the Liberia border as well as one locality (Peahtah) in eastern Liberia, all in the Mont Nimba region.

Removed from the synonym of Phrynobatrachus fraterculus by Rödel, Sandberger-Loua, Loua, Doumbia, and Hillers, 2009, Afr. J. Herpetol., 58: 15-27, where it had been placed by Guibé and Lamotte, 1963, Mem. Inst. Franç. Afr. Noire, 66: 616. In species group B of Zimkus, Rödel, and Hillers, 2010, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 55: 883-900. Channing, Rödel, and Channing, 2012, Tadpoles of Africa: 279, provided information on comparative larval morphology. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph.
