Phrynobatrachus schioetzi Blackburn and Rödel, 2011, Herpetologica, 67: 276. Holotype: ZMB 74523, by original designation. Type locality: "Federal Republic of Nigeria, Cross River State, Obudu Plateau, tributary of Afundi River, 6.428°N, 9.362°R (datum not specified), elevation ca. 1500 m (estimated based on latitude and longitude)".

Obudu Plateau of Nigeria and adjacent Cameroon.

Comment

Most closely related to Phrynobatrachus manengoubensis and Phrynobatrachus werneri, according to the original publication. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 282–283, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. In the Phrynobatracus werneri group according to Gvoždík, Nečas, Dolinay, Zimkus, Schmitz, and Fokam, 2020, PeerJ, 8 (e8393): 1–52.
