Type locality: "Yembung, Abor foot-hills at an altitude of 1,100. ft. ", Arunachal Pradesh, India (in region claimed by China).

Ixalus argus Annandale, 1912, Rec. Indian Mus., 8: 16. Holotype: ZSIC 16950 according to Chanda, Das, and Dubois, 2001 "2000", Hamadryad, 25: 111. Type locality: "Upper Renging, Abor country", Arunachal Pradesh, India (in area claimed by China). Synonymy (with Polypedates afghana) by Boulenger, 1920, Rec. Indian Mus., 20: 217; and Dubois, 1974, Bull. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat. Paris, Ser. 3, Zool., 213: 356–357. Synonymy with Amolops marmoratus by Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 340. The revision by Dever, Fuiten, Konu, and Wilkinson, 2012, Copeia, 2012: 57–76, logically removed this name from the synonymy of Amolops marmoratus, but did not address it. Considered a possible  synonym of Amolops gerbillus by Wang, Bhattarai, Wu, Che, and Siler, 2020, Zootaxa, 4819: 143–158.

Distribution

Southern slope of Himalayas in southeastern and southwestern Tibet (China), northern and northeastern India (Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, West Bengal, and Arunachal Pradesh) and adjacent Myanmar (Kachin); likely to be found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal.
