Amolops nepalicus Yang, 1991, Fieldiana, Zool., N.S., 63: 23. Holotype: UMMZ 132063, by original designation. Type locality: "Sabhaya, Kbota, Nepal"; data associated with the specimen are actually "2 km E of Barabise 2200 ft (Barabise is on Sabhaya [= Sabha] Khola, tributary of Arun River, ca 3 km NE of Kandari", Nepal, according to G. Schneider (personal comm.) and Wang, Bhattarai, Wu, Che, and Siler, 2020, Zootaxa, 4819: 147, who noted the type locality to be at roughly at 27°25′34″N, 87°18′23″E, WGS 84.

Distribution

Known from the type locality (Sabha Khola) and Dobhan, both in the Sankhuwasabha District, as well as Ilam and Taplejung districts, eastern Nepal.

Formerly in the synonymy of Amolops marmoratus, where it had been placed by Dubois, 2000, in Miehe and Zhang (eds.), Environm. Changes in High Asia: 331, and Dubois, 2004, Alytes, 21: 176. The revision by Dever, Fuiten, Konu, and Wilkinson, 2012, Copeia, 2012: 57-76, vitiated this synonymy but did not address it. Formally removed from that synonymy by Khatiwada, Shu, Wang, Zhao, Xie, and Jiang, 2020, Asian Herpetol. Res., 11: 71–94, who discussed its taxonomy and found it to be the sister taxon of Amolops panhai and by Wang, Bhattarai, Wu, Che, and Siler, 2020, Zootaxa, 4819: 143–158, who redescribed the holotype and provided a detailed account. Anders, 2002, in Schleich and Kästle (eds.), Amph. Rept. Nepal: 207–211, provided an account for the Nepal population (in the sense of also including Amolops mahabharatensis), as Amolops marmoratus. See Shah and Tiwari, 2004, Herpetofauna Nepal: 50, for brief accounts for Nepal. Khatiwada, Wang, Zhao, Xie, and Jiang, 2021, Asian Herpetol. Res., 12: 1–35, discussed the genetics of the Nepal population. In the Amolops marmoratus group of Jiang, Ren, Lyu, Wang, Wang, Lv, Wu, and Li, 2021, Zool. Res., Kunming, 42: 574–591. Mahony, Nidup, Streicher, Teeling, and Kamei, 2022, Herpetol. J., 32: 147, provided DNA-confirmed records from Ilam and Taplejung Districts, eastern Nepal.
