Comment

In the Rana tarahumarae group of Hillis, Frost, and Webb, 1984, Copeia, 1984: 398–403, Rana pustulosa group of Dubois, 1987 "1986", Alytes, 5: 42. In equivalent subgenus Zweifelia of Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 331. Old extralimital records are based on Rana tarahumarae and Rana sierramadrensis. Hillis, Frost, and Frost, 1983, J. Herpetol., 17: 72–73, misapplied the name Rana trilobata to (former) Rana sinaloae. See accounts by Zweifel, 1968, Cat. Am. Amph. Rept., 66: 1–2; Webb, 1988, Occas. Pap. Mus. Texas Tech Univ., 121: 1–15, and Webb, 2001, Mesoam. Herpetol.: 23–26. Rendón Suárez, Mercado-Silva, Palomera García, and Iñiguez Dávalos, 2016, Southwest. Nat., 61: 241–273 provided records from the Marabasco Basin of the Jalisco–Colima border region. Rorabaugh and Lemos-Espinal, 2016, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Sonora: 191–193, provided a detailed account of natural history, morphology, distribution, and conservation status in Sonora, Mexico. Lemos-Espinal, Smith, and Valdes-Lares, 2019, Amph. Rept. Durango: 80–81, provided a brief account for Durango, Mexico. Loc-Barragán, Smith, Woolrich-Piña, and Lemos-Espinal, 2024, Herpetozoa, Wien, 37: 30, reported on the distributional and conservation status in the state of Nayarit, Mexico.
