Resembles Pseudophilautus pleurotaenia, Pseudophilautus asankai, and Pseudophilautus auratus (all as Philautus) according to the original publication. de Silva, 2009, Amph. Rep. Sri Lanka Photograph. Guide: 104, provided a brief account and color photograph. de Silva, 2009, Amph. Rep. Sri Lanka Photograph. Guide: 104, provided a brief account and color photograph. Bopage, Wewelwala, Krvavac, Jovanovic, Safarek, and Pushpamal, 2011, Salamandra, 47: 173-177, reported the species in lowland forest in the Kanneliya Forest of southwestern Sri Lanka. Ellepola, Herath, Manamendra-Arachchi, Wijayathilaka, Senevirathne, Pethiyagoda, and Meegaskumbura, 2021, PLoS One, 16(10: e0258594): 10, noted that on molecular criteria alone this nominal species is likely conspecific with Pseudophilautus pleurotaenia.
