Comment

Previously confused with Hynobius utsunomiyaorum, from which it differs in morphology and mtDNA molecular markers demonstrating that it is more closely related to Hynobius akiensis and more similar to Hynboius setoi, according to the original publication. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 118, provided an account, summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
