Distribution

Known only from the Chita Peninsula and surrounding areas of Nagoya-shi in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.

Comment

Previously confused with Hynobius vandenburghi, with which it forms the sister taxon; morphometrics and molecular markers detailed in the original publication. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 104–105, provided an account, summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
