Bolitoglossa vallecula Brame and Wake, 1963, Contrib. Sci. Nat. Hist. Mus. Los Angeles Co., 69: 27. Holotype: MLS 8a, by original designation. Type locality: "Yarumal, 2300 meters (7550 feet), Departamento de Antioquia, Colombia".

Distribution

High elevations of the central Andes (Cordillera Central) in the departments of Antioquia, Caldas, Quindio, Risoralda and Tolima, in Colombia, 2210–3000 m elevatons. See comment.

In the Bolitoglossa (Eladinea) adspersa group of Parra-Olea, García-París, and Wake, 2004, Biol. J. Linn. Soc., 81: 336. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 335–336, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Cruz-Rodríguez, Lynch, Cárdenas, and Caicedo-Portilla, 2021, Zootaxa, 4965: 268, pictured the holotype. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 718, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map). He also noted a pers. comm. from Amdres Acosta that the species is also found in the Cordillera Occidental.
