Known only from the type locality (Parque Internacional La Amistad, ca. 1500 m elevation, Distrito de Teire, Cantón de Talamanca, Provincia de Limón, Costa Rica).

Comparative morphology, molecular markers, and a dot map provided by Kubicki, Reyes, and Arias, 2022, Zootaxa, 5194: 451–496, as part of their revision of the genus. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 877–878, provided an account summarizing morphology, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
