Oedipina stenopodia Brodie and Campbell, 1993, Herpetologica, 49: 260. Holotype: UTA A-24559, by original designation. Type locality: "south slope of Volcán Santa María, Finca El Faro, Departamento de Quezaltenango, Guatemala; . . . . This locality is located between 1219 and 1432 m elevation at about 14°43′N, 91°34′W".

San Marcos Worm Salamander (Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 872).

Distribution

South-facing slopes in southwestern Guatemala (departments of Quezaltenango and San Marcos), 1200–1500 m elevation; possibly in Ocotepeque, Honduras (see comment).

Previously confused with Oedipina ignea prior to its description. McCranie and Wilson, 2002, Amph. Honduras: 157, noted one specimen of "Oedipina ignea" from Ocotepeque, Honduras, which might be assignable to Oedipina stenopodia. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 581. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 82–90, compared this species with others from Central America and provided a map and photograph. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 383, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 872, provided a brief account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
