Caecilia leucocephala Taylor, 1968, Caecilians of the World: 404. Holotype: KU 200985 (formerly W.A. Thorton 583), by original designation. Type locality: "Virology Field Station, Río Raposo, Valle del Cauca, south of Buenaventura, Colombia".

English Names

White-headed Caecilian (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 23).

Distribution

Eastern Panama through the Pacific lowlands of western Colombia to northwestern Ecuador.

Geographic Occurrence

Natural Resident: Colombia, Ecuador, Panama

Comment

Taylor, 1973, Univ. Kansas Sci. Bull., 50: 210, suggested that the locality "Central Brasil" is erroneous, and the specimen with this locality data (CAS 66187) is likely from a locality on the Pacific or Caribbean drainage. Lynch, 2000 "1999", Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 23: 325, commented on the distribution. Taylor, 1968, Caecilians of the World: 443. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 29–30, compared this species to others found in Central America.
