Holotype: Not designated, although animal figured is holotype; this specimen is MNHNP 585 according to Guibé, 1950 "1948", Cat. Types Amph. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat.: 4 (who regarded this name as a junior synonym of Ichthyophis glutinosus), and Lescure, 1988, Bull. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat. Paris, Sect. A, Zool., 10: 62. Type locality: "l'Amerique méridionale"; given as "Guyane (= Cayenne), French Guiana" by Taylor, 1968, Caecilians of the World: 159.
