Type locality: "Colombia, Departamento del Quindío, Municipio de Salento, vereda Río Arriba, Fina 'La Montaña', 4.3 Km E de La Cocora, flanco occidental de la Cordillera Central, 4° 38′ latitud N, 75° 31′ longitud W de Greenwich, 2650-3100 m alt."

In the Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group, according to the original publication. In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group according to Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 219. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128. Not assignable to any current species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 127.
