Type locality: "Yasuni Scientific Research Station, Universidad Catolica del Ecuador (76° 24′ 19″ W, 00° 40′ 32″ S; altitude 230 m), Provincia de Orellana, Ecuador".

In the Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group, Eleutherodactylus lacrimosus assemblage, according to the original publication. McCracken and Forstner, 2006, Phyllomedusa, 5: 135–143, reported on reproductive ecology and advertisement call. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) lacrimosus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 123, and of Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 126.
