Western flank of the Cordillera Occidental and the northern half of the Cordillera Central of Colombia at elevations from 1200–2600 m elevation.


The species name is a noun in apposition. Distribution and variation within the species was treated by Lynch, 1992, Stud. Neotrop. Fauna Environ., 27: 211-226. Reviewed by Lynch, 1996, Cat. Am. Amph. Rept., 623: 1-3. In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) conspicillatus series, Eleutherodactylus devillei group of Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 224. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128. In the Pristimantis ridens species group of Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 126. Duarte-Marín and Arango-Ospina, 2019, Herpetol. Bull., London, 148: 33–34,  reported on the advertisement call from a population in the Cordillera Central.
