Type locality: "west slope of Abra Tangarana, 1080 m, 7 km (by road) NE San Juan de Pacaysapa, Provincia Lamas, Departamento San Martín, Peru".

Distribution

Known from the type locality on the road from Abra Pardo Miguel to Moyobamba on the east slope of the northern part of the Cordillera Central in northern Peru (Amazonas Department; into adjacent Ecuador at Curintza, Zamora Chinchipe Province, 1800 m elevation.

In the Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group according to the original publication. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 128. Yánez-Muñoz, Toral-Contreras, Meza-Ramos, Reyes-Puig, Bejarano-Muñoz, Mueses-Cisneros, and Paucar, 2012, Check List, 8: 286–290, reported this species in Ecuador and commented on the range. Venegas, García Ayachi, and Catenazzi, 2021 "2022", Taxonomy, 2022: 37, suggested that the Ecuadorian part of the range requires genetic confirmation.
