Hyla koechlini Duellman and Trueb, 1989, Herpetologica, 45: 5. Holotype: KU 205692, by original designation. Type locality: "Reserva Cuzco Amazónico on the Río Madre de Dios, approximately 15 km E of Puerto Maldonado, 200 m 12° 33′ S, 69° 03′ W), Departamento de Madre de Dios, Peru".

Known from the type locality and the Río Tambopata about 40 km (airline) southwest of the type locality, Department of Madre de Dios, Peru; also from the departments of Beni, La Paz, and Santa Cruz, in Amazonian Bolivia; Amazonas, Brazil; in adjacent Colombia in the Leticia region.


In the Hyla parviceps group according to the original publication and Duellman, 2001, Hylid Frogs Middle Am., Ed. 2: 859 Rodríguez and Duellman, 1994, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 22: 29–30, provided a brief account for the Iquitos region of northeastern Peru as Hyla koechlini. De la Riva, Köhler, Lötters, and Reichle, 2000, Rev. Esp. Herpetol., 14: 33, noted the Bolivian component of the range. Duellman, 2005, Cusco Amazonico: 211–213, provided an account (adult and larval morphology, description of the call, life history). In the Dendropsophus parviceps group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 93. Lynch, 2005, Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis.
