Comment

See Cochran and Goin, 1970, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 288: 251, for account. Removed from the synonymy of Smilisca phaeota by Cochran and Goin, 1970, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 288: 254, where it had been placed by Duellman, 1968, Cat. Am. Amph. Rept., 61: 1–2. Lynch and Renjifo, 2001, Guia Anf. Rept. Bogota: 48–49, presented a brief account and photograph. In the Dendropsophus labialis group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 91. Guarnizo, Amézquita, and Bermingham, 2009, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 50: 84–92, reported on molecular phylogeography within eastern Colombia, in what subsequently was named Dendropsophus luddeckei. Guarnizo, Escallón, Cannatella, and Amézquita, 2012, Herpetologica, 68: 523–540, revised and redelimited the species. Guarnizo and Cannatella, 2014, J. Heredity, 20: 216–225, reported on gene flow characteristics. Estupiñán, Ferrari, Gonçalves, Barbosa, Vallinoto, and Schneider, 2016, ZooKeys, 637: 89–106, suggested on the basis of COI barcodes that cryptic species are likely. Jungfer, 2017, Salamandra, 53: 18–24, discussed Hyla molitor Schmidt 1857, and concluded that it is a senior synonym of Hyla labialis Peters, 1863; in his synonymy of Dendropsophus molitor he did not include a number of names traditionally in the synonymy of Dendropsophus labialis, although what this implies is unknown. The synonymy of Dendropsophus labialis with Dendropsophus molitor rejected by Suárez-Mayorga, 2022, Brazil. J. Animal & Environm. Res., 5: 3137, on the basis of the morphology of the holotypes. In the Dendropsophus molitor group of Orrico, Grant, Faivovich, Rivera-Correa, Rada, Lyra, Cassini, Valdujo, Schargel, Machado, Wheeler, Barrio-Amorós, Loebmann, Moravec, Zina, Solé, Sturaro, Peloso, Suárez, and Haddad, 2021, Cladistics, 37: 73–105. Arias-Cárdenas, Barrientos, Pardo-Diaz, Paz, Crawford, and Salazar, 2023, Zool. J. Linn. Soc., https://doi.org/10.1093/zoolinnean/zlad085: 1–13, discussed molecular markers, morphometrics, advertisement call, comparative morphology and placed Dendropsophus ludduckei into synonymy.
