Most closely related to Dendropsophus labialis and previously confused with that species. according to the original publication. See Guarnizo, 2013, Catal. Anf. Rept. Colombia, Medellín, 1: 50–52, for account and dot map. Guarnizo and Cannatella, 2014, J. Heredity, 20: 216–225, reported on gene flow characteristics. In the Dendropsophus molitor group of Orrico, Grant, Faivovich, Rivera-Correa, Rada, Lyra, Cassini, Valdujo, Schargel, Machado, Wheeler, Barrio-Amorós, Loebmann, Moravec, Zina, Solé, Sturaro, Peloso, Suárez, and Haddad, 2021, Cladistics, 37: 73–105.
