Hyloscirtus hillisi Ron, Caminer, Varela-Jaramillo, and Almeida-Reinoso, 2018, ZooKeys, 809: 105. Holotype: QCAZ 68649, by original designation. None noted. 


Known only within 1.7 km of the type locality (3.5190°S, 78.3788°W) on a flat-topped limestone mountain in the Río Quimi basin, Provincia Zamora Chinchipe, Ecuador, at elevations between 1991 and 2134 m. 


In the Hyloscirtus larinopygion group, most closely related to Hyloscirtus tapichalaca, according to the original publication.
