Known only from the vicinity of the type locality (southern part of state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).

Larval morphology described by Carvalho-e-Silva, Gomes, and Peixoto, 1995, Rev. Brasil. Biol., 55: 61–65. In the Scinax catharinae clade, Scinax catharinae group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 95. Garey, Costa, Lima, Toledo, and Hartmann, 2012, Acta Herpetol., Firenze, 7: 297-308, reported on the advertisement call.
